RIPPLES

City Hall Public Art Sculpture, Johnston, Iowa

Starting from the competition stage to the final construction of the public art sculpture, I generated form studies, parametric models and scripts, fabrication methods, and material studies. The “Ripples” (aka “Big Fish”) installation weights 2 tons and measures 20 feet long, 13 ½ feet high and 10 feet wide. The stainless steel sculpture is covered with nearly 2,000 kinetic “scales” that capture the light and wind which create a sense of movement on the ribs like frame.
